The Focus Fader, commercialised as the Stanton CFF1, was the first non-contact performance-oriented crossfader.

Rather than being a fully analogue fader, the Focus Fader only has the ability to detect when the wiper is at either end of its travel. It achieves this by using a pair of photointerruptors, one at each end of the wiper travel. The Wiper has a metal hook which, when moved into the slot of an intteruptor, blocks a beam of infrared light.
